1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what brought you to PayStream?
I was working as a Marketing Assistant in an adverse mortgage lenders before I made the move to PayStream. My previous company had recently been purchased by an American investment bank and was going from strength to strength but unbeknown to everyone the financial crisis was about to hit and the bubble was about to burst. They say that when America sneezes the UK catches a cold and that was definitely the case as it unfortunately meant that slowly but surely the company was scaled down which meant I was facing redundancy. Luckily though a recruitment consultant put me onto a Marketing Assistant role at a company called PayStream, in a sector that I’d never heard of before but it sounded interesting so I decided to go for the interview. After a gruelling three stage interview process I was finally offered the job and I’ve never looked back. That was over 11 years ago now so my redundancy cloud definitely did have a silver lining as I’ve progressed from Marketing Assistant up to Marketing Manager in that time, and I’ve enjoyed every minute.
2. What is a typical day at PayStream like?
The thing I love about my job is that no two days are the same. I start each day with a to do list but find that I very rarely manage to complete all the tasks on it, which may say something about my organisational skills. Even though there are lots of tasks that are completed proactively, given the type of business that we are and the sector that we operate in, the role can also be very reactive. So I can easily be taken off track onto a new project that needs developing, a problem that needs solving or a campaign that needs creating.
3. How does PayStream compare to your previous workplaces?
It’s my ‘ideal’ in terms of culture, it’s the only place I’ve felt where I truly fit in. I enjoy not only the work but also the people I work alongside, and a sociable creature that’s an important part of a job. The term quirky professionals has been used before and I think that does describe our management team quite well. We work hard and a lot can be expected of you but I like that because to me, the more a company expects of you, the more trust they have in your capabilities. Don’t get me wrong this isn’t a one way relationship, PayStream is also very good at giving. There are regular paid for social events and treats and the Christmas party is always an extravaganza!
4. What do you enjoy most about working at PayStream?
I love the culture, I love the job and I love the people, so basically I enjoy everything.
5. What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I used to travel the country competing in morris dancing events; bells, ribbons, pompoms, the lot! I should also probably say that I was only 10 years old at the time.
6. What are your favourite things to do outside of work?
It’s a bit of cliché but I love catching up with friends and family. The older you get the busier you are and the faster time flies, so I love nothing more than taking time out to spend it with the people who make me laugh.
